PBJCEOC is committed to alleviating poverty and assisting low-income individuals and families to secure knowledge, skills and opportunities to become self-sufficient and to lead lives of dignity in Jefferson, Cleveland, Arkansas, Lincoln and Grant county.
Community Action Agencies (CAAs) nationwide manage more than $5.6 billion in public and private resources annually, serving more than 9.3 million low-income persons. The Community Services Block Grant, which supplies PBJCEOC’s base funding, is unique; it is flexible, and it primarily funds local, community-specific projects. By supplementing government programs' "one-size-fits-all" programming, PBJCEOC can provide its community members the right mix of assistance, encouragement, and incentives to become self-sufficient.
In order to better leverage CSBG federal funding, PBJCEOC operates a wide range of locally developed programs that offer opportunities, services and support (including much encouragement) to help individuals and families gain the basic necessities and achieve economic self-sufficiency that will empower them to have more fulfilling, productive and contributing lives, for the betterment of individuals, families, communities. The programs provide help in attaining education, training, employment, housing, food, transportation, child care, and other needs.
PBJCEOC works with the state Office of Community Services (OCS) of the Arkansas Department of Human Services and with many other state, federal, regional, and national agencies, organizations, and groups, including schools, churches, businesses, civic groups and governments, to identify needs and generate resources for programs and projects built around the needs. Case management and other outcome-based techniques are used to more comprehensively help individuals and families overcome barriers and advance economically and socially.
